the Leipzig Zoo started a new chapter just in time for the millennium - the zoo of the future becomes a reality. Step by step, it becomes a new world. The zoo of the future makes it possible for animals in their natural habitats to be observed and to understand their world with all their senses. The Zoo visit is a unique and unforgettable adventure.
Eilenburg Observatory
Since the end of 1996, the observatory posses a new, fast lens and computerised reflecting telescope with an opening of 305 mm as its main instrument. The observation possibilities have been significantly expanded and improved. From October until the end of March, regular public observation evenings are held. During the school holidays in Saxony as well as some Saturdays, informative and entertaining family public performances as well as special children's performances are offered.
Taura Miniature Park
Enjoy a variety of models of original historical examples that can be found throughout the region. Enjoy our beautiful Saxony as a miniature model on a scale of 1:25. The miniature scene is historical, technical and includes displays of nature - a highlight for the whole family. A very special attraction is the large garden with the 2000qm model railway. With great attention to detail, the system was designed after the ‘Harzquer’- and ‘Brockenbahn’, ‘Selketalbahn’ and the American forest railways. The miniature landscape, with 120 buildings, over 10000 plants and more than 500 figures impresses young and old!
Grimma ice skating rink
For all those who also want to go ice skating in summer (and also in winter).
The Lap’s Cart Centre is one of the largest and longest carting tracks in Germany. With a length of 1100m, you will find it a challenging course with guaranteed action and great driving pleasure on a combined indoor and outdoor track.
The outdoor "Three bridges" is centrally located on the B 6 as well as the railway line from Leipzig to Dresden. It is easily accessible by car, train and bicycle from Altenbach.
